We at Healthier Hens, a newly-founded Effective Altruism-aligned animal welfare charity, are looking for motivated and ambitious volunteers to bolster our country scoping work.


Did you know that more than half of all egg-laying hens kept commercially experience at least one bone fracture in their short lives? The scale of such pain that often goes unnoticed and always untreated, is hard to comprehend. We believe that by ensuring that the hens are provided with a diet optimal for their health and well-being instead of productivity, we could reduce the incidence rates of poor bone health.

At Healthier Hens we strive to make sure that all potential volunteers are informed of our inclusion policy and the benefits that come with being a part of the Healthier Hens team. Upon request, our volunteers can make use of the following:

  • Direct interaction, 5 optional meetings dedicated to personal and/or professional development with any of the three co-founders

About the role:

We are looking for volunteers based in Germany, Kenya and the US. It is a flexible part-time role with responsibilities that will be a matter of agreement (driven by your availability and presence. The responsibilities may include:

  • Desk research

  • Translating texts internally

  • Curating a list of potential stakeholders and contact information

  • Calling industrial stakeholders and arranging meetings

  • Taking part in meetings and visits

  • Planning and strategizing effective travel days

  • Peer reviewing, proof-reading texts
